Artist’s Statement: Domestic Doubt

 Photoshop artist: Marcelo A.

Intro: “What are the regulations around maintenance/care of domestic animals and how have they influenced the pet industry?” This question built the foundation of our IDP and the satirical poster I created for my group on our project about Animal Rights.

Par. 1: The movie I chose to satire was the Disney/Pixar movie Inside Out. I chose the movie because the message of conflicting ideals within animal rights organizations worked well with a movie about personified individual thoughts. The particular poster I chose seemed to convey enough of the message intended through basic visuals and text.

Par. 2: My pastiche included the founders/CEO’s of 3 major animal rights organizations, including PETA, the Humane Society of the United States, and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Some of my favorite elements I’d like to draw attention to was the choice of text and the reflection of the characters as opposed to the people/animal chosen for the pastiche.

Par. 3: The intended message was to convey how different animal organizations seem to conflict in their ideologies while all arguing for animal rights, I feel my pastiche properly conveys this message and stands artistically sound.

I really liked how you tinted the characters colors to express emotion( which was part of the movie theme as well). That was an extremely strong detail!
